A New Angel in the Outfield

Dedicated to the memory of Mark Stephen Koeth, my dear brother (April 11, 1978 – May 7, 2011)
By: David Strange

Did you hear the news? Could it be true? Mark Koeth will play today.
He’s living his dream, he made the team
The Angels want him to stay; and best of all, not in L.A.
I hear he is tall and can throw the ball faster than he did before.
The kids gather up to shake his hand the line wraps around the store.
All the time they wait in line,
they dream of being big someday, so that they might be just like he
And pitch perfect on opening day.
I hear he grows taller every time he steps to the mound to pitch
But when he tosses the deuce on 0-2 the batter just walks away.
He’s wide as a door, and stronger than before, he wears is jersey well
His family’s proud, and wonders how, they made such a man as he
But then they remember their baby’s dreams, and how they came to be
When he was small Dad taught him ball and they never looked back
So from day one, Dad looked at his son, and the talent he never lacked
“One day you’ll be great, stay on your pace, and do what you think is right”
Mark dreamed out loud and made his family proud;
parents, sisters, and brothers
But his number one fan, who told him he can, was his loving mother.
Now he’s gone, called up to the show, to pitch and play for the Angels.
While he’s gone, we all must know he finally made his dream
But now we have to let him go to be the soul of his new team.
